Responsibilities
- Define SLA, SLO, and SLI objectives and agreements for products, platforms, and services.
- Engineer resilient designs and implementations throughout the product lifecycle.
- Automate manual operational work and reduce toil through automated management processes, services, and CI/CD improvements.
- Develop observability solutions to track, report, and measure SLA adherence.
- Optimize IT infrastructure and operations costs through FinOps practices.
- Automate critical-situation management procedures and runbooks.
- Perform data analytics and system trend analysis.
- Troubleshoot performance, scalability, and availability issues, including application-server, thread-dump, heap-dump, JVM, and database analysis.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of experience with software product engineering principles, processes, and systems.
- Hands-on experience with Java/J2EE, Apache Tomcat or IBM HTTP Server, Tomcat or WebSphere, and a major relational database such as Oracle.
- Experience with at least one CI/CD tool, such as Azure DevOps, GitLab CI/CD, or Jenkins, and one infrastructure-as-code tool, such as Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or Ansible.
- Experience with at least one cloud technology, such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, container or platform technologies such as Docker, Pivotal, Kubernetes, or OpenShift, and related reliability tools.
- Experience monitoring Linux/RHEL operating-system performance and interpreting monitoring parameters and commands.
- Experience with observability and APM tools such as Dynatrace or AppDynamics, metrics and log consolidation with Splunk, and the ELK Stack.
- Knowledge of queuing models, thread pools, request servicing processes, web services, SOA, ESB/DataPower, RESTful services, application design patterns, J2EE architectures, microservices, Spring Boot, and cloud-native architectures.
- Proficiency in Java runtimes, Core Java, garbage collection, and JVM parameter tuning.
- Experience tuning Tomcat or WebSphere application servers and analyzing performance and availability issues.
- Knowledge of query tuning, database designs and models, and at least one automation scripting language such as Python.
- Mastery of collaborative software development using Git, Jira, and Confluence.
- AI/ML and data analytics knowledge and experience are desirable.
