Responsibilities
- Own architectural decisions for Canva’s hybrid mobile platform across React Native, iOS, and Android.
- Turn the new architecture into shipped production code with strong performance, reliability, and observability foundations.
- Launch a React Native product surface in production within six months and provide stable capabilities for feature teams.
- Lead Staff and Senior engineers through the migration and serve as an architectural anchor for difficult technical decisions.
- Drive adoption of the mobile platform across major product teams and influence mobile architecture across more than 800 frontend engineers.
- Build and maintain shared capabilities, libraries, abstractions, and infrastructure used by multiple engineering teams.
- Address mobile performance, crash monitoring, reliability, optimization, bundle delivery, and native platform boundaries at scale.
Requirements
- Production experience building or significantly evolving a large-scale cross-platform mobile architecture.
- Experience leading a meaningful migration of a mature mobile product while it remained live and growing.
- Principal-level technical leadership across multiple teams, including setting direction adopted by Staff-level engineers.
- Experience shaping architecture, platforms, standards, or technical direction across multiple groups or a large engineering organization.
- Hands-on technical depth and comfort working through complex implementation details.
- Deep fundamentals across iOS and Android, including shared-code runtimes, native boundaries, mobile performance, and system-level trade-offs.
- Strong engineering fundamentals in data structures, complexity, and system architecture.
- React Native and React production experience is relevant; comparable experience with Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, or another production-scale cross-platform stack may also qualify.
- Preferred experience includes React Native internals, Rust or C/C++ portable libraries, React Native/Flutter/Kotlin Multiplatform/Expo open-source contributions, mobile CI/CD, release trains, over-the-air updates, and practical AI tooling experience.
