Responsibilities
- Address backend engineering friction points across teams, including inter-service testing, monorepo consistency, and system stability.
- Steer backend engineering direction and standardize practices across Engineering and potentially R&D.
- Own multi-quarter projects by breaking complex problems into small, iteratively validated steps.
- Evaluate feature and project impact using established data pipelines and frameworks, aligning work with commercial objectives.
- Shape the long-term direction of Engineering and lead initiatives across multiple teams.
- Work end-to-end across the React client application and Python monolithic backend.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of software engineering experience, including at least two years at Senior Staff or Principal level (L7+).
- Previous leadership experience driving projects across multiple teams of 50 or more engineers.
- Experience working in a high-performing engineering organization operating at scale.
- Deep server-side and backend engineering expertise with the ability to work across the stack.
- Relevant experience building enterprise-grade SaaS products.
- Strong alignment with commercial success; experience with AI-powered video generation, billing systems, experimentation platforms, video delivery systems, online editors, or real-time collaboration is a plus.
Benefits
- Base salary starts at EUR/GBP/CHF 200,000 plus a stock option plan.
- Full-time employment only; contractor arrangements are not available, typically through OysterHR.
- 25 days of leave plus local holidays.
- Preferred work locations are in-office or remote in the UK, Germany, Switzerland, or Ireland; other European remote locations may be possible subject to compliance and right-to-work checks.
