Responsibilities
- Own and maintain a custom Yocto/OpenEmbedded Linux distribution, including layers, BitBake recipes, image configuration, SDKs, toolchains, and OS upgrades.
- Bring up and qualify commercial laptop hardware platforms, including driver configuration, BIOS and firmware settings, peripheral validation, and compatibility testing.
- Maintain secure boot across hardware platforms using UEFI Secure Boot, GRUB2, TPM 2.0, bootloader signing, key management, and BIOS interactions.
- Develop and support field software update and service upgrade workflows, including package validation, partition management, rollback, BIOS firmware upgrades, and error recovery.
- Debug platform-level boot, reboot, TPM, login, USB/HID, storage, display/GPU, and update failures.
- Implement platform services, utilities, scripts, APIs, diagnostics, and software documentation for application, field service, manufacturing, and systems teams.
- Perform Linux security hardening and vulnerability remediation, including CVE fixes, account and permission hardening, kernel/module configuration, and endpoint security integration.
- Produce design documents, change-analysis artifacts, test evidence, and technical documentation in accordance with medical-device quality procedures.
- Collaborate with application software, security, field service, systems engineering, hardware, manufacturing, and quality teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of industry experience, or a master’s degree with 4+ years of industry experience, in computer science, computer engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- At least 4 years of embedded Linux software engineering experience with direct OS-layer development experience.
- Hands-on experience building, customizing, debugging, and maintaining Linux-based product platforms.
- Deep Yocto Project/OpenEmbedded experience, including meta-* layer authoring, BitBake recipes, image manifests, and SDK toolchain configuration.
- Proficiency in Bash and at least one system-level language, preferably C or C++.
- Experience designing and implementing field software updates involving package validation, partition management, rollback, and error recovery.
- Knowledge of Linux security hardening, permissions, privilege controls, credential management, kernel modules, and security scanning tools.
- Experience managing hardware lifecycle transitions and qualifying replacement platforms across hardware generations.
- Hardware bring-up experience on x86 laptops or embedded platforms, including drivers and USB, HID/trackpad, display-adapter, and storage debugging.
- Familiarity with D-Bus IPC, systemd service management, and Linux logging infrastructure.
- Proficiency with Git, Jira, Bitbucket or GitHub, and Jenkins or an equivalent CI/CD toolchain.
- Preferred experience with UEFI Secure Boot, GRUB2 signing, TPM 2.0, PCR policy binding, BIOS firmware interaction, secure key management, OTA or field-update frameworks, commercial laptop BIOS tools, NVIDIA drivers, CUDA, Qt, Linux partition management, networking, firewall management, endpoint security agents, and regulated medical-device development.

- The compensation package includes base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity; the role has regional target salary ranges of $160,300–$230,700 and $188,600–$271,400.
