Responsibilities
- Track Linux Kernel developments and identify relevant features for Arista products and internal development.
- Develop and maintain EOS kernel features and tests using C, C++, and Python.
- Build automated tests and test infrastructure to validate kernel features.
- Work with hardware engineers and vendors to qualify CPUs, NICs, and other kernel-dependent hardware components.
- Contribute kernel features to the upstream Linux community and integrate new kernel versions into EOS.
- Own projects from definition through deployment, including debugging, performance tuning, and quality ownership.
- Analyze and resolve customer network and system-test problems with Customer Support Engineers, customers, and System Test Engineers.
- Provide technical leadership across features, projects, and tools, and mentor new and junior engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.
- 3+ years of related post-graduate work experience.
- Expert knowledge of and extensive experience programming in C; knowledge of C++ and Python is desirable.
- Significant hands-on experience troubleshooting Linux kernel issues, fixing bugs, and developing kernel features.
- Familiarity with Linux kernel architecture, design, implementation, and the upstream Linux patching process.
- Understanding of IP networking architecture, design, and principles.
- Applied understanding of modern software engineering principles and practices.
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, software design, implementation, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and in small teams.
- Familiarity with x86 and ARM CPU architectures.
