Base Salary
$131k - $154k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and maintain scalable backend systems, services, and APIs for Upstart Bank initiatives.
- Deliver high-quality software while partnering with senior engineers on medium-to-large engineering projects.
- Translate business, operational, and regulatory requirements into reliable, maintainable software.
- Improve reliability, observability, and operational excellence across backend services.
- Participate in technical design discussions and develop technical ownership.
- Collaborate with Product, Compliance, Legal, Risk, Finance, Operations, and Engineering.
- Contribute through thoughtful implementation, testing, code review, and operational ownership.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 2 years of software engineering experience and experience building production backend or full-stack systems.
- Experience with APIs, backend services, or web applications.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Kotlin, Python, or Go.
- Strong fundamentals in software design, testing, debugging, and operational ownership.
- Preferred experience includes fintech, financial services, payments, regulated industries, distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, Kafka, and gRPC.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across Product, Compliance, Operations, and Engineering in ambiguous and self-directed environments.
