Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Deliver medium-complexity initiatives from technical discovery through delivery, including estimation, scope management, risk identification, and prioritization.
- Build accessible, adaptable, scalable, reusable, responsive, and mobile-first web experiences for Wikipedia across web and app surfaces.
- Design, implement, integrate, monitor, and evolve server-side APIs and simple scalable data pipelines for mobile and web clients.
- Build software that is testable, observable, debuggable, performant, accessible, and usable, while instrumenting features for product analysis.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, analysts, and native app engineers to shape pragmatic solutions and manage technical tradeoffs.
- Follow standards for code review, technical design, testing, documentation, accessibility, observability, and decision-making.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 5-10+ years of related professional experience, including significant experience building production web applications and services.
- Strong professional experience with JavaScript/TypeScript, JavaScript frameworks such as Vue.js, and backend languages such as PHP.
- Experience building responsive or mobile-first web experiences with attention to performance, accessibility, and usability.
- Experience designing and integrating with server-side APIs.
- Experience delivering work in a self-driven, lean environment.
- Commitment to the Wikimedia Foundation's mission and values.
- Preferred: experience with webview-wrapped experiences, native or cross-platform mobile applications, mobile games, data science, machine learning, AI, prompt engineering, Jupyter notebooks, Wikipedia, wikitext, Markdown, MediaWiki, Drupal, WordPress, agentic coding, open source contributions, or fully remote distributed teams.
- Preferred: bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree in computer science, management information systems, or a STEM field, or equivalent certification.
Benefits
- Three-month full-time contract.
- Fully remote, remote-first work arrangement with at least four hours of the workday occurring between 15:00 and 21:00 UTC.
- Hiring is available in the listed US states and countries; non-US employees are hired through a local Employer of Record and must have current local work authorization.
- The listed US pay range is US$56.07 to US$87.13, adjusted by location and individualized factors.
