Base Salary

Responsibilities
- Build and evolve Pantheon’s federated GraphQL supergraph and Go subgraphs for its Dashboard and public API.
- Design VPC and network architecture, service discovery strategies, and internal connectivity standards.
- Decompose the legacy Python monolith into bounded services and own the Cassandra data layer, including replication, backups, and disaster recovery.
- Design and operate workflow orchestration using GCP Workflows, Pub/Sub, and Go services on Cloud Run.
- Define GraphQL, gRPC, and REST standards for engineering teams across the organization.
- Own production systems by monitoring health with SLOs, resolving incidents, and participating in on-call and alert rotations.
- Contribute through code review, design feedback, technical guidance, and mentorship.
Requirements
- Significant experience building and operating production services in Go, with adaptability across Go, Rust, and Python codebases.
- Experience designing scalable APIs with sound schema design, versioning, and backward compatibility; GraphQL, gRPC, or REST experience is relevant.
- Experience with large-scale, high-traffic distributed systems and robust service design.
- Experience decomposing monoliths or incrementally modernizing legacy systems while maintaining production operations.
- Working knowledge of VPCs, DNS, load balancing, service-to-service authentication, Kubernetes, Terraform, and release engineering practices.
- Experience with a major cloud provider, with GCP experience especially welcome.
- Experience using observability tools such as Grafana Cloud, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.
- Experience supporting live sites and participating in on-call rotations.
- Clear communication, collaboration, and mentorship skills.
- Bonus experience may include GraphQL Federation, Grafana, Apollo, Hive, schema registries, Cassandra, stateful datastore operations, Python runtime migrations, private service networking, service meshes, GCP Workflows, Pub/Sub, Cloud Run, Cloud Build, AlloyDB, MySQL, Redis, Docker, CircleCI, GitHub Actions, Vault, WordPress, or Drupal.
