Base Salary
$208k - $260k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve reusable TypeScript and React components, patterns, APIs, documentation, and tooling used across multiple applications.
- Shape and maintain Handshake’s design system and component libraries with a focus on consistency, accessibility, flexibility, and adoption.
- Improve frontend developer experience through paved paths for local development, testing, builds, releases, and maintenance.
- Use AI tools throughout engineering workflows and build reusable AI-enabled workflows, agent-ready documentation, linters, structured CI reviews, and accessibility and visual checks.
- Strengthen frontend infrastructure and CI/CD workflows for building, testing, linting, packaging, and releasing software.
- Make accessibility a built-in capability through accessible component APIs, shared guidance, and automated checks.
- Own or contribute to cross-cutting frontend capabilities used consistently across applications and teams.
- Partner with engineers, designers, product managers, and platform teams to understand needs and drive adoption of shared solutions.
- Lead projects from problem definition through implementation, rollout, documentation, and iteration.
- Raise frontend engineering standards through design reviews, code reviews, technical writing, mentoring, and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional frontend software development experience with a high level of scope and ownership.
- Expertise in TypeScript, React, browser fundamentals, frontend architecture, testing, and performance tradeoffs.
- Experience building or maintaining reusable frontend libraries, design systems, component platforms, or other shared capabilities used by multiple teams or applications.
- Experience with product teams and platform, infrastructure, or developer-experience teams, or demonstrated understanding of their differing approaches.
- A track record of turning ambiguous recurring problems into simple, maintainable, well-adopted solutions.
- Experience designing understandable, extensible, and maintainable APIs and abstractions for other engineers.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills across engineering, design, and product.
- A customer mindset for internal platform users, including seeking feedback, measuring impact, and optimizing for self-service.
- Demonstrated ability to turn AI experiments into durable engineering solutions.
- Preferred experience with design systems or component libraries, accessibility, documentation, adoption, frontend build and test infrastructure, CI/CD systems, monorepos, package publishing, developer tooling, Storybook, visual regression testing, automated accessibility testing, navigation, routing, application shells, performance, governance, and cross-team technical leadership.
