Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own backend services for distributed telemetry data streaming, processing, and storage.
- Build and maintain Kafka-based streaming pipelines and components that feed ClickHouse.
- Own ClickHouse data modeling, query performance, partitioning, sort keys, materialized views, retention, and cost optimization.
- Deploy, scale, and operate services in production Kubernetes environments using Helm and CI/CD pipelines.
- Own observability through metrics, logs, tracing, and customer-impact-based alerting.
- Debug and resolve production incidents, participate in on-call, conduct root-cause analysis, and operate against service-level objectives.
- Build backend services and APIs, including API contracts, data models, and schema migrations, for internal consumers, product surfaces, and AI agents.
- Contribute to analytics front ends, dashboards, funnels, exploration tools, and web or mobile capture SDKs.
- Lead complex multi-service designs, drive technical decisions to closure, and write design documents and postmortems.
- Improve code review, testing strategy, and automation coverage while mentoring engineers.
- Integrate LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, embedding stores, and agent frameworks into production features where appropriate.
- Design safeguards, observability, and evaluation practices for nondeterministic AI components.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of backend software engineering experience.
- At least 4 years designing and operating distributed systems.
- At least 3 years of production Kubernetes experience, including Helm and CI/CD.
- At least 3 years working with Kafka or equivalent streaming and data pipelines.
- At least 3 years of on-call and production ownership experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical field; a master’s degree may offset up to one year of experience, and equivalent practical experience may be considered where technical depth is clearly demonstrated.
- Strong production-scale backend development experience in Java, Python, Go, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience building distributed systems for data streaming, processing, and storage.
- Solid SQL skills and experience with a columnar or analytical data store, including query optimization and physical data modeling.
- Demonstrated depth in incident response and customer escalations.
- Enough front-end capability to build and debug data-heavy interfaces using JavaScript or TypeScript with React or Angular.
- Production experience with ClickHouse or another OLAP or columnar store is preferred.
- Exposure to OpenTelemetry, metrics and logging stacks, and alerting platforms is preferred.
- Experience with product analytics or telemetry platforms, Flink or Spark, and web or mobile SDK instrumentation is preferred.
- Familiarity with GitHub Copilot or Cursor, AI-assisted debugging, LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, embedding stores, agent frameworks, and Model Context Protocol is preferred or relevant to the role.
