
Senior Software Engineer I
American ExpressResponsibilities
- Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and production support of software applications and systems.
- Build and maintain distributed, scalable, multi-tier applications using Java-based technologies.
- Write automated unit tests and support unit, integration, functional, and performance testing.
- Monitor software performance and implement improvements to functionality, quality, and efficiency.
- Provide technical guidance on coding standards, best practices, software delivery, and complex technical solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers and help foster their professional growth.
- Collaborate with cross-functional product and business teams to align technology initiatives with organizational goals.
- Conduct architecture reviews and help influence technical direction.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or comparable experience; an advanced degree is preferred.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience or equivalent experience based on role requirements.
- Strong experience with Java-based application development and distributed, scalable, multi-tier systems.
- Experience across application design, development, testing, deployment, and production support.
- Knowledge of algorithms, NoSQL and relational databases, automated testing, code quality practices, and DevOps principles.
- Experience with cloud environments and modern software delivery practices is preferred.
- Experience leading small teams, mentoring engineers, or driving technical initiatives is preferred.
- Experience with architecture reviews and technical direction is preferred.
- Exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP; Docker and Kubernetes experience is preferred, and Kafka knowledge is a plus.
