Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain core Python backend services, web applications, and API services for external and internal customers.
- Implement relational and non-relational database functionality within web applications.
- Improve service reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
- Build observability into services through metrics and dashboards.
- Maintain systems managing hundreds of terabytes of raw sequencing data and analysis results.
- Contribute to documentation, processes, working practices, and long-term product and feature development.
Requirements
- Degree in a numerate discipline.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining Python web applications in an operational cloud environment.
- Experience with one or more of FastAPI, Django, Flask, or Litestar.
- Experience with relational and NoSQL data modeling and database backends such as DynamoDB, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with containers and related tooling.
- Some AWS experience, including services such as DynamoDB, RDS, Batch, ECS, and Fargate.
- Experience with continuous integration and deployment systems, notably GitLab and/or AWS CodeDeploy.
- Clear communication, documentation, stakeholder engagement, and attention to detail.
- Preferred experience includes software development in a scientific or bioinformatics environment.
- Preferred experience includes frontend development with React, Vue, or Next.js, and experience with TypeScript, Node.js, HTML, and CSS.
