Responsibilities
- Ensure the reliability and performance of production data systems such as ClickHouse, CockroachDB, and Trino.
- Design and operate database clusters on Kubernetes using operators.
- Build and maintain ingestion, transformation, and replication data pipelines.
- Drive Infrastructure-as-Code practices using Terraform and Helm.
- Operate on-premises VAST storage and AWS data platforms including S3, EMR, MSK, RDS, and EKS.
- Manage Docker images and CI/CD workflows for data services.
- Define and maintain AWS IAM policies and permissions.
- Troubleshoot databases, operating systems, storage, and networking across the stack.
- Implement observability, alerting, metrics, and capacity planning.
- Collaborate with engineering, data, and research teams.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, data platform engineering, or a similar field.
- Production experience with distributed data systems such as ClickHouse, Trino, or EMR.
- Strong Kubernetes experience, including stateful workloads, Helm, and operators.
- Solid Infrastructure-as-Code experience with Terraform and Helm.
- Good knowledge of the AWS data ecosystem, including S3, EKS, EMR, MSK, and RDS.
- Strong understanding of AWS IAM and security best practices.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with data pipelines and tools such as Kafka, Spark, or Airflow.
- Strong Linux fundamentals and scripting skills in Python and/or Bash.
- Understanding of database replication, backups, and failover.
- Preferred qualifications include OLAP or high-throughput systems experience, VAST Data or similar storage experience, Iceberg, Delta Lake or Hudi familiarity, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ArgoCD, Flux, CKA certification, Go or Rust programming, Parquet or Arrow, query engines, and AWS certifications.
