Software Engineer, Backend (Agentic AI)

Responsibilities
- Partner directly with customers and product teams to turn hardware review workflows into agent capabilities.
- Design, ship, and operate agentic systems that reason over large-scale time-series data and hardware context.
- Build tool interfaces, sandboxed execution environments, context and memory management, compaction algorithms, skills, and guardrails for dependable agents.
- Build distributed systems that stream long-running agent work in real time, survive disconnects, and resume after restarts.
- Design job-based systems that schedule, scale, and tear down agent workloads on Kubernetes in cloud and on-premises environments.
- Develop and maintain Sift’s MCP server for querying telemetry.
- Design and implement APIs powering agentic capabilities.
- Build evaluation suites and production instrumentation for quality, latency, cost, and failure modes.
- Integrate and assess frontier models across providers.
- Own a product area from initial MVP through subsequent product iterations.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience building APIs such as REST or gRPC and complex backend services with Go, Python, Rust, or similar technologies.
- Working knowledge of distributed systems fundamentals.
- Interest in trying and evaluating new AI agents, models, and features.
- U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or other qualifying U.S. Person status required for ITAR/EAR compliance.
- Bonus: experience shipping products at scale, building LLM-powered or agentic features, designing agent tool ecosystems including MCP, sandboxed code execution, production operations, streaming or time-series data systems, scientific computing, hardware telemetry, or internal agentic tooling.
