Responsibilities
- Own feature areas or backend components through technical direction, design, implementation, testing, documentation, release, and post-release health.
- Design and review integration and protocol interfaces that customers can extend and customize.
- Define API versioning and backward-compatibility strategies for public contracts.
- Design for scale and failure, including rate limits, timeouts, retries, partial responses, unavailable remote systems, and long-running operations.
- Investigate escalated customer integration failures across platform, network, and remote systems and drive root-cause fixes.
- Identify and reduce technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks.
- Mentor IC1 and IC2 engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing.
- Collaborate with product management, user experience, quality engineering, and platform teams on scope and delivery.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software engineering experience owning backend systems or services in production.
- Expert-level Java or JavaScript/Node.js skills and strong computer science fundamentals, including concurrency, memory management, and performance profiling.
- Experience designing, consuming, and debugging integrations with third-party systems, including undocumented or inconsistent behavior.
- Strong knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, mutual TLS, and API key authentication flows.
- Experience designing APIs or extension points with versioning and backward-compatibility requirements.
- Production experience with debugging, root-cause analysis, data modeling, SQL, and query optimization for large datasets.
- Experience with automated testing and improving test strategy for a team.
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical design discussions.
- Agile, sprint-based development experience and clear written communication.
- Preferred experience with JSON-RPC, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, streaming or long-lived connections, AWS EKS, Azure Kubernetes Service, Google Kubernetes Engine, MCP, JDBC, ODBC, query engine internals, SDKs, connectors, integration frameworks, or React.
