Responsibilities
- Partner with software engineering, product, and architecture teams to shape engineering approaches and technical strategy.
- Own broad or complex technical requirements and define department-wide design, coding patterns, and architecture.
- Lead architecture, design, prototyping, implementation, technical planning, and execution for product and technology initiatives.
- Review and validate code output across multiple teams and resolve technical conflicts.
- Own features and systems, define their long-term health, and improve surrounding systems.
- Develop and implement tests for application quality, performance, and scalability.
- Assist support and operations teams with identifying and resolving production issues.
- Represent engineering in cross-functional sessions and influence decisions across departments.
- Lead a broad functional area and coordinate efforts through functional team members.
- Develop and mentor engineers and provide technical leadership for cross-functional projects.
- Improve engineering standards, tooling, processes, and practices.
- Support risk management and the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Typically 12 or more years of relevant experience.
- Nine or more years of experience developing distributed systems, SaaS, cloud solutions, or microservices.
- Eight or more years of experience with Java and Spring.
- Proficiency with Maven or Gradle.
- Experience delivering business-critical systems and designing scalable systems.
- Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging frameworks such as Pub/Sub, Kafka, and RabbitMQ.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure such as Google Cloud Platform, AWS, or Azure.
- Knowledge of mature engineering practices, software development life cycle practices, software development methodologies, and DevOps practices.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across multiple departments.
- Background and drug screen required.
- Preferred qualifications include commerce, API, payment operations, checkout, advanced Java and Spring Boot, AWS-based architecture, hands-on system design and coding, technical leadership, code and design reviews, mentoring, technical planning, and team-level coordination.
- Preferred qualifications also include knowledge of RTP and FedNow real-time payment networks, FinTech experience, and Kubernetes experience.
