Base Salary
$150k - $200k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define technical strategy and architectural direction for Passport’s cloud services across multiple subsystems and workflows.
- Lead complex, ambiguous initiatives from problem framing and design through implementation, rollout, and operational follow-through.
- Develop and operate cloud-native backend services using Go and Python across AWS and GCP.
- Set reusable technical standards and patterns focused on reliability, scalability, performance, security, and cost.
- Identify systemic risks and architectural gaps, and drive mitigation before they affect customers or operational stability.
- Partner with engineering, test, research, and product teams on roadmaps and new capabilities.
- Lead technical reviews and align stakeholders on architecture, migrations, and ownership boundaries.
- Participate in incident response, observability improvements, alerting, runbooks, deployment quality, and service ownership.
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and hands-on collaboration.
- Participate in the team’s on-call rotation, including after-hours alert coverage.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software development experience building backend services and APIs, or equivalent practical depth.
- Demonstrated Staff-level impact leading significant technical initiatives across multiple services or domains.
- Strong hands-on experience with Go, Python, or similar languages, plus foundations in data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and Linux-based development.
- Deep experience designing and operating cloud-native systems in AWS or GCP, including S3, DynamoDB, Kinesis, and IAM.
- Experience owning highly available systems, including deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, incident response, and operational improvement.
- Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD.
- Experience defining or influencing technical standards, architecture, or roadmaps across team boundaries.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build alignment among stakeholders.
- Preferred experience with Redis, MySQL, RabbitMQ, Elasticsearch, authentication, identity, fraud prevention, security-sensitive products, observability, large-scale migrations, reliability programs, cost and capacity optimization, internal platforms, developer tooling, or adjacent UI and product experiences.
