Responsibilities
- Design and implement software bridges and integration layers for partner-specific components within the Android stack.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to partners integrating solutions into Fairphone’s open-source tree and production codebase.
- Manage partner components through the software development lifecycle, from bring-up through maintenance.
- Collaborate with quality and testing teams to validate ODM deliverables and integrated features.
- Triage and resolve complex integration issues across hardware and software boundaries.
- Own technical documentation and communicate integration details to internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Manage project timelines, vendor relationships, and cross-functional delivery for partner integrations.
- Architect scalable integration solutions and serve as the primary technical contact for ODMs and partners.
- Contribute to the AOSP codebase, including proof-of-concept work, while maintaining code integrity and long-term maintainability.
Requirements
- Degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, or a similar field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of relevant, hands-on experience in the Android ecosystem.
- Expertise in core Android and chipset stacks, including C/C++ or Rust, Java, and Kotlin.
- Ability to lead technical discussions and negotiate technical solutions with external partners.
- Knowledge of AI/ML integration in Android, such as on-device AI, NPU utilization, or relevant frameworks.
- Ability to support business-case development and work with Legal teams on software compliance.
- Experience with unit and integration testing, code review tools, continuous integration, and open-source development.
- Strong root-cause analysis, issue resolution, and technical documentation skills across hardware/software boundaries.
- Proven experience working directly with Original Design Manufacturers in a technical capacity.
- Deep understanding of partner software integration workflows and Android customization for specific use cases.
- Understanding of Enterprise Firmware Over-the-Air solutions and update rollouts for large B2B or enterprise device fleets.
- Familiarity with Android Enterprise system update policies, including maintenance windows and mandatory updates.
- Expertise in Android HALs such as camera, audio, WiFi, or Bluetooth is a bonus.
- Proficiency with GNU/Linux operating systems and spoken and written English.
