Responsibilities
- Own the target-state architecture and technology roadmap for a next-generation Lakehouse data platform.
- Lead migration from traditional data warehouse architectures to modern, scalable Lakehouse architectures.
- Design architectures for data ingestion, storage, processing, governance, observability, security, AI enablement, and multi-tenant data isolation.
- Evaluate and guide adoption of Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake, Apache Spark, DuckDB, Trino, Flink, Kafka, and cloud-native analytics services.
- Enable generative AI applications, agentic AI workflows, RAG, vector databases, semantic search, and AI-assisted analytics.
- Partner with AI teams to operationalize ML and GenAI workloads and evaluate emerging AI technologies.
- Serve as the highest-level technical authority, conduct architecture reviews, and guide critical design decisions.
- Mentor architects and senior engineers and drive engineering excellence and technical innovation.
- Architect for high availability, performance, resiliency, cost optimization, observability, reliability, security, compliance, and data quality.
- Own critical tasks from specification review through final testing and deployment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, AI, or a related field.
- 15+ years of overall software engineering experience, including 7+ years of professional software development experience in a product or SaaS environment building modern data platforms.
- Deep expertise in data warehouses, Data Mesh, modern data architectures, and data platforms.
- Deep experience with distributed data processing frameworks including Apache Spark, Trino, Flink, and Kafka, plus open table formats such as Apache Iceberg and Delta Lake.
- Experience designing and evolving large-scale distributed systems, microservices, event-driven architectures, and highly available production services.
- Strong knowledge of AWS, containerization, infrastructure automation, reliability, scalability, and cost-efficient platform engineering.
- Experience with CI/CD, code review, test automation, observability, release engineering, and DevOps practices.
- Understanding of authentication, authorization, encryption, secure design, and application security principles.
- Demonstrated experience building or guiding LLM and agentic systems, including prompt and context design, tool orchestration, structured outputs, and human-in-the-loop validation.
- Experience evaluating multiple LLMs or AI providers across quality, latency, cost, reliability, safety, and enterprise suitability.
- Understanding of production AI patterns including RAG, evaluation frameworks, prompt management, guardrails, fallback strategies, observability, and secure sensitive-data handling.
- Ability to define validation standards, identify AI risks, and maintain human accountability for technical decisions.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, organizational, mentorship, and technical-influence skills.
