Responsibilities
- Design and implement Android on-device inference solutions meeting demanding accuracy, latency, and performance requirements.
- Develop native C++ vision components using the Android NDK and JNI bindings connected to Kotlin applications.
- Convert, quantize, profile, and optimize detection and tracking models using pruning, graph optimization, and operator-level improvements.
- Investigate camera capture behavior, frame timing, exposure, device differences, thermal constraints, and battery consumption.
- Build validation tools and measurement processes to assess model accuracy against ground truth in real-world conditions.
- Collaborate with computer vision and machine learning specialists on model improvements and technical trade-offs between on-device and remote processing.
- Write maintainable, testable, reliable production software and communicate across mobile, backend, and machine learning disciplines.
- Use AI-assisted and delegated development tools within security and intellectual property guidelines.
Requirements
- At least four years of applied computer vision or machine learning engineering experience, including solutions deployed into production.
- Demonstrable experience running inference on Android or embedded devices rather than exclusively on desktop or server hardware.
- A degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Expert knowledge of applied computer vision, including object detection, tracking, camera geometry, and uncontrolled-environment challenges.
- Experience with mobile or embedded inference runtimes, model conversion and quantization toolchains, model optimization, and performance profiling.
- Strong C++ knowledge, particularly Android NDK and JNI, plus working experience with Kotlin and Python.
- Experience measuring and validating model accuracy against ground truth and understanding mobile camera capture pipelines.
- Knowledge of machine learning fundamentals, Git, code reviews, and continuous integration practices.
- Beneficial experience with real-time or latency-sensitive systems, spatial computing, multi-view reconstruction, and the Android application release lifecycle.
- Experience in automotive, embedded systems, or other resource-constrained environments is particularly relevant.
