Responsibilities
- Own and evolve application and platform architecture, including service boundaries, integration patterns, data modeling, API standards, and multi-region cloud deployments.
- Lead architecture reviews, influence roadmaps, and drive cross-team initiatives involving modernization, refactoring, performance tuning, data migrations, and distributed systems.
- Evaluate and introduce technologies, establish engineering standards for design, testing, secure coding, CI/CD, and production readiness, and create reusable reference implementations.
- Help teams resolve complex and high-severity production issues and improve reliability, operability, and technical guardrails.
- Support FedRAMP and government-cloud certification readiness by shaping technical controls and implementation plans with Security and Compliance.
- Mentor engineers and technical leads and build organizational learning programs including architecture guilds, technical talks, design workshops, and post-incident reviews.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of overall engineering experience, including at least five years as a Staff or Principal Engineer at B2B SaaS startups.
- Strong working knowledge of Java/J2EE, Oracle, PostgreSQL, AWS, GCP, Azure, React, and Vue.js.
- Experience building and operating modern B2B SaaS applications with strong engineering fundamentals.
- Proven ability to set architectural direction across multiple teams and make durable technical decisions involving scalability, reliability, performance, data consistency, and operational maturity.
- Experience with global cloud systems and production operations at scale, including multi-region deployments, disaster recovery/business continuity, and observability.
- Experience supporting FedRAMP or government-cloud certification and/or comparable regulated environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to author design documentation and influence engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders.
- Track record of mentoring and coaching engineers across teams and raising engineering quality.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field is required; a master's degree is preferred.
- Desirable experience includes shared services such as identity/authentication and platform APIs, Kubernetes, service meshes, developer productivity tooling, large-scale Java/J2EE modernization, and commercial real estate software.
