Responsibilities
- Migrate Akamai configuration from manual Control Center changes to reusable Terraform modules for properties, rule trees, and DNS.
- Build self-service edge-change workflows with policy checks, validation, staging tests, and GitLab CI/CD integration.
- Develop Python and Bash tooling for Akamai API automation, bulk changes, certificate checks, drift detection, and inventory reporting.
- Own Akamai edge delivery, routing, origin behavior, redirects, rewrites, caching, purge workflows, and multi-region traffic management.
- Configure edge security controls including Site Shield, network lists, IP allow-listing, WAF, and bot mitigation.
- Manage SSL/TLS certificates for edge properties in coordination with Venafi.
- Maintain an auditable inventory of properties, hostnames, certificates, and CP codes and remediate configuration drift.
- Diagnose delivery, routing, and performance incidents using Edge Diagnostics, debug headers, mPulse, and reporting APIs.
- Partner with platform and application teams to translate hosting and delivery requirements into secure, performant, maintainable configurations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in CDN and edge delivery engineering with deep hands-on Akamai expertise.
- Experience with Akamai property creation, versioning, rule trees, and activation across staging and production through Property Manager, Control Center, and PAPI.
- Hands-on experience with the Akamai Terraform Provider, reusable infrastructure-as-code modules, GitLab CI/CD, and Python or Bash scripting.
- Knowledge of edge hostnames, CP codes, origins, failover, traffic steering, Edge DNS, and Global Traffic Management.
- Experience with host- and path-based redirects, rewrites, Cloudlet policies, Edge Redirector, Forward Rewrite, and Visitor Prioritization.
- Experience with Site Shield, network lists, WAF, bot mitigation, SSL/TLS certificate lifecycle management, certificate chains, and SNI.
- Strong troubleshooting and observability skills using Edge Diagnostics, debug headers, mPulse, traffic reporting APIs, TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, and routing fundamentals.
- Experience delivering changes through formal ITSM or change-control processes such as ServiceNow in regulated or high-availability environments.
- Akamai certification, experience with CloudFront, Cloudflare, or Fastly, AWS networking knowledge, edge compute experience, Akamai DataStream knowledge, and PCI DSS experience are preferred.
