Responsibilities
- Own Elasticsearch at scale, including index design, shard and partitioning strategy, cluster health, performance tuning, safe migrations, and operational excellence
- Collaborate with domain experts to shape technical direction and infrastructure strategy
- Own infrastructure areas through application development, systems automation, observability improvements, and low-level production datastore tuning
- Contribute to ideation, prototyping, design, implementation, and strategic enablement
- Support incremental delivery through continuous deployment and feature flags
- Participate in hiring, mentoring, and career development for engineers
- Raise technical standards for performance, reliability, and operational excellence across Fin
Requirements
- At least five years of production engineering experience with contributions to distributed-systems design and architecture
- Strong experience with a major production datastore or search system, especially Elasticsearch
- Practical expertise in Elasticsearch index and mapping design, cluster operations, scaling, performance tuning, and migrations
- Expertise in backend technologies including MySQL and Memcached, as well as Linux
- Demonstrated impact on products or engineering teams and, ideally, experience scaling a SaaS product
- Proficiency with unit testing, object-oriented design, data structures, code reviews, design documentation, and observability tooling
- Understanding of modern web applications and distributed systems, with the ability to explain technical challenges and solutions
- Experience serving as a technical lead for large, multiquarter projects and programs, including roadmap definition
- Ability to learn quickly, iterate, unblock yourself, and persist until problems are solved
