Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain Android applications, services, frameworks, and software components for the Mercedes-Benz Intelligence Platform.
- Integrate LLMs, speech and audio models, multimodal AI, AI inference services, vehicle systems, and backend services across onboard and cloud environments.
- Develop conversational voice AI and multimodal experiences combining voice, text, visual information, and vehicle context.
- Integrate vehicle signals and contextual data into AI-powered applications for more proactive in-vehicle experiences.
- Optimize Android software and AI workloads for automotive compute platforms, including CPU, GPU, NPU, memory, storage, power utilization, startup time, and response latency.
- Collaborate with AI/ML, hardware, platform, UX, architecture, product, and global engineering teams to evaluate models, resolve bottlenecks, and deliver production software.
- Participate in the full software lifecycle, including requirements, implementation, testing, integration, validation, release, post-launch support, documentation, and code reviews.
- Develop automated unit and integration tests, support continuous testing and software releases, and contribute to Automotive SPICE-compliant development.
- Debug complex application, platform, system, and integration issues across development environments, test benches, and vehicles.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least three years of professional software development experience, preferably in Android, embedded systems, automotive software, or related product development.
- Strong Kotlin programming skills and experience developing production-quality Android software.
- Experience with Android or Android Automotive OS applications, services, frameworks, or platform components.
- Understanding of Android architecture, application lifecycle, system services, inter-process communication, and platform APIs.
- Experience or demonstrated knowledge integrating AI-powered applications, models, or services such as LLMs, speech recognition, conversational AI, audio AI, or multimodal AI.
- Understanding of AI inference and model integration concepts, including inputs and outputs, context management, performance, latency, and resource constraints.
- Experience integrating applications with backend services, AI inference services, or distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with Linux-based embedded systems and software development environments.
- Experience with Android SDK, Android Studio, Gradle, ADB, and Git.
- Knowledge of software design principles, object-oriented programming, data structures, and common design patterns.
- Experience debugging, profiling, and performing systematic root-cause analysis of application, platform, or system-level issues.
- Experience developing unit and integration tests and familiarity with automated software testing.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and global development partners.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with LLMs, speech/audio models, VLMs, multimodal AI models, AI inference frameworks, runtimes, model optimization, quantization, edge AI deployment, Vehicle HAL, and globally distributed production engineering teams.
