Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own scalable data and ML pipelines, backend services, and AI-powered production capabilities.
- Ship small, safely mergeable increments daily using feature flags, canary releases, and rollback architecture.
- Use and evaluate AI-assisted development tooling for code generation, automated testing, architecture prototyping, and engineering productivity.
- Own systems from design through deployment, operational monitoring, cost management, and business impact measurement.
- Make and document pragmatic architectural decisions balancing AI and data technology, reliability, cost, and delivery speed.
- Partner with product, design, infrastructure, and go-to-market teams to translate customer and business needs into technical solutions.
Requirements
- At least five years of experience building and shipping production-grade backend and data systems in distributed cloud environments using AWS and/or GCP.
- Hands-on experience integrating AI, LLM, or agent-based components into production workflows and understanding the related architectural tradeoffs.
- Current hands-on use of AI-assisted development tools such as Copilot or Cursor, with the ability to explain their impact on engineering throughput.
- Strong backend expertise in Java with Spring Boot, Python, and/or Go.
- Experience with relational and non-relational databases, data modeling, and query optimization.
- Demonstrated expertise in automated testing, CI/CD, and observability.
- Ability to work in a high-ownership, builder-first environment, decompose complex work into incremental deliveries, and ship continuously.
- Preferred: experience with production MLOps systems, model serving, monitoring, retraining pipelines, distributed data technologies such as Parquet and Athena, and autonomous architectural decision documentation.
