Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, ship, and follow up on backend features and improvements with minimal guidance.
- Design and maintain APIs, background jobs, integrations, bounded services, data models, migrations, indexes, and query behavior.
- Write maintainable, secure, observable, and performant production code.
- Add and improve unit, integration, contract, and end-to-end automated test coverage.
- Review code for correctness, maintainability, security, performance, and operational risk.
- Investigate build, test, deployment, and runtime failures; identify technical debt and propose improvements.
- Participate in on-call or operational support according to the team’s ownership model.
- Use AI coding tools productively, validate generated output, and correct it when necessary.
- Partner with Product Management, Frontend, Infrastructure, Security, and designers to clarify and deliver requirements.
Requirements
- Professional experience building and shipping production backend applications.
- Strong programming, API, database, testing, debugging, and performance fundamentals.
- Experience with Ruby/Rails, Go, or another modern backend language, with the ability to learn and adapt.
- Ability to own features from clarification through delivery and follow-up while working independently.
- Sound judgment regarding security, reliability, performance, maintainability, operational risk, and modular backend boundaries.
- Strong written communication and effective collaboration in a remote, asynchronous environment.
- Practical experience with AI coding tools and the ability to review and correct their output.
- Helpful experience includes production Go services, APIs, concurrency, profiling, or gRPC.
- Helpful experience includes Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, CI/CD, cloud deployment, Rust, PostgreSQL, schema evolution, caching, queues, messaging, event-driven workflows, and observability.
- Experience contributing to modular monoliths, bounded contexts, shared components, or independently operated services is helpful.
