Responsibilities
- Build backend platform tools and automation for financial crime model development and improvement.
- Own complex technical problems from identifying opportunities through implementation and stakeholder alignment.
- Develop systems for model experimentation, bias and fairness, training-set maintenance, and threshold analysis.
- Provide guidance to Wise’s data engineering and machine learning community.
- Build and scale distributed systems that support Fraud Prevention, AML, and Sanctions teams.
Requirements
- Typically 5+ years of experience with Java 11+ or Java 21+; depth and relevance of experience are prioritized.
- Familiarity with Python.
- Experience with batch or stream processing, preferably Apache Spark and Flink/Kafka streams.
- Familiarity with SQL and NoSQL document databases.
- Experience with distributed systems spanning multiple microservices, Kafka, scattered data, and ownership.
- Hands-on knowledge of system integration patterns.
- Strong product mindset, customer focus, problem-solving ability, and end-to-end ownership.
- ML Engineering experience with model training pipelines, label quality assurance, or model experimentation frameworks is desirable.
- Data Engineering experience with large-scale pipelines, feature engineering and serving infrastructure, graph algorithms or embedding techniques, and data governance is desirable.
- Experience with Apache Iceberg and/or Trino is desirable.
