Responsibilities
- Lead and develop software across a variety of platforms and technologies.
- Deliver automation features across the full project lifecycle, from requirements through deployment.
- Focus on backend development, data, and infrastructure for rules, schedules, and other home automation capabilities.
- Shape technical direction through design reviews, architectural decisions, and technology evaluation.
- Collaborate closely with product management, quality engineering, design, and other teams.
- Write organized, maintainable code in complex codebases and balance rapid delivery with robust solutions.
- Debug and resolve production issues while ensuring performance, resiliency, reliability, and maintainability.
- Lead projects to completion, mentor engineers, and influence code quality through reviews.
- Research and apply technologies and methodologies to solve challenging project goals.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- At least 6 years of professional software development experience.
- Strong backend engineering experience building and maintaining HTTP APIs and services using REST and/or GraphQL.
- Deep knowledge of object-oriented design, SOLID principles, and design patterns; C# and .NET Core experience is a plus.
- Solid database fundamentals, including schema design, query optimization, indexing, and migration strategy.
- Experience contributing across modern and legacy framework codebases.
- Fluency with version control, package managers, structured data formats, and observability tooling.
- Experience designing reliable and scalable systems with attention to performance, resiliency, and maintainability.
- Demonstrated testing experience across unit, integration, and end-to-end test layers.
- Strong debugging and operational skills using logs, metrics, and traces.
- Experience with peer feedback, design reviews, code reviews, project leadership, and mentoring engineers.
- Ability to collaborate across product, design, and QA, scope ambiguous problems, decompose work into shippable increments, and articulate technical tradeoffs.
- Bonus experience includes automation systems, MicroPython, assembly or other low-level languages, enterprise-scale microservices, Kafka, AI-assisted development tools, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud-native infrastructure, legacy migrations, and application security fundamentals.
