Responsibilities
- Implement vehicle properties in the VHAL, including configuration, get/set handlers, change notifications, and unavailable or error-state handling.
- Map raw CAN or other bus signals to Android property semantics, including conversion, scaling, endianness, enumerations, validity, timeout, and staleness behavior.
- Develop and maintain Android services and app-facing Java/Kotlin components using CarPropertyManager.
- Extend the reference and emulated VHAL and property-injection tooling for testing without target hardware.
- Build property dump utilities, signal simulators, log parsers, and configuration generators.
- Debug across the Android and vehicle stack using logcat, dumpsys, adb, systrace/Perfetto, and CAN/SOME/IP traces.
- Write native, Java/Kotlin, VTS, and instrumentation tests; reproduce and fix triaged defects and document root causes.
- Participate in design and code reviews, propose scoped SELinux policy changes, and maintain property catalogs and integration documentation.
Requirements
- At least 3 years of experience in Automotive Digital Cockpit Solutions.
- At least 5 years of total experience, including 2 or more years in Android platform, system apps, embedded Android, or automotive embedded C++.
- Solid Java and Kotlin skills for clean, tested framework-level code.
- Working-to-proficient C++ skills, including C++11/14/17, STL containers, smart pointers, and basic concurrency.
- Understanding of Android architecture, including activities, services, Binder, AIDL, system services, applications, and permissions.
- Experience building and flashing an AOSP image and familiarity with repo, Android.bp, Android.mk, lunch, make, adb, and fastboot.
- Working knowledge of HALs and AIDL/HIDL interfaces.
- Awareness of SELinux denial messages, .te syntax, and scoped policy rules.
- Basic familiarity with CAN frames and signals, DBC files, and SOME/IP.
- Preferred experience with CarPropertyManager, VehiclePropertyIds, the AAOS emulator, Python or Bash tooling, CI scripting, and Git-based Gerrit workflows.
- Familiarity with Rust and the listed Java, Kotlin, C++, Python, and Bash development ecosystem.
