Software Engineer III (Java, backend, Microservices)
Guidewire SoftwareResponsibilities
- Analyze product requirements and translate them into functional definitions and software designs for InsuranceNow.
- Develop product features in Java and write automated tests.
- Develop and support RESTful APIs and help optimize database schemas, SQL queries, and database performance.
- Contribute to continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines.
- Support the scalability, availability, and data security of InsuranceNow services.
- Partner with Infosec teams on Secure SDLC practices, security scans, and penetration testing.
- Analyze application logs and identify opportunities to automate development tasks using AI agentic tools.
- Collaborate with Product Operations, Customer Support, product management, QA, operations, and domain experts to deliver product enhancements.
Requirements
- 4–5 years of experience using Java and object-oriented programming.
- Familiarity with continuous delivery, continuous integration, unit testing, and related engineering practices.
- Solid understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Highly desirable: experience optimizing database schemas and SQL queries, analyzing query plans, and tuning database server configuration.
- Highly desirable: experience developing RESTful APIs and supporting developer communities using APIs.
- Highly desirable: knowledge of AWS cloud services.
- A plus: understanding of single sign-on, SAML, and authentication and authorization concepts.
- Insurance industry experience is not required; willingness to learn the insurance domain is expected.
- Successful candidates are collaborative, committed to clean and maintainable code, comfortable working with distributed teams, and able to communicate clearly.
