Responsibilities
- Maintain and strategically modernize high-throughput C/C++ payment processing systems handling real-time financial transactions.
- Migrate a core Windows C++ authorization gateway to Linux using Clang and Bazel.
- Develop and maintain integrations with third-party payment gateways including Chase Paymentech, Barclays, HSBC, AMEX, Adyen, Braintree, Klarna, and Shift4.
- Decompose legacy IPC frameworks into gRPC services for reuse across the payments ecosystem.
- Implement encryption, PCI-compliant data handling, and other security-critical payment features.
- Optimize transaction-processing performance and latency while preserving reliability during peak onsales.
- Incrementally modernize legacy C++ code using safer ownership, memory, and string-handling practices.
- Design and implement unit, integration, and fuzz testing for security-critical components.
- Debug and resolve production issues across complex interdependent payment systems.
- Collaborate with payment operations teams to onboard payment methods and gateway providers.
- Ensure compliance with PCI-DSS and other financial industry standards.
- Participate in the production payment systems on-call rotation.
Requirements
- At least 7 years of professional C++ development experience in production environments.
- Fluency in modern C++ and strong systems programming knowledge, including memory management, concurrency, and performance optimization.
- Ability to reason about undefined behavior, cross-platform effects, toolchains, and cross-compilation.
- Experience with Bazel or comparable build-system expertise and with legacy codebases more than 10 years old.
- Experience with or strong interest in payment processing or financial transaction systems.
- Deep knowledge of security best practices, PCI-DSS implementation, encryption, and cryptographic libraries such as OpenSSL.
- Understanding of HTTP/HTTPS protocols and API design, plus experience with Linux/Unix environments.
- Rust experience or genuine interest in learning Rust.
- gRPC experience or familiarity with decomposing monolithic architectures into services.
- Payment gateway integration experience, such as Chase Paymentech, Braintree, Adyen, or similar providers.
- Experience with platform migrations such as Windows to Linux or MSVC to Clang.
- Performance profiling experience and familiarity with shared memory, IPC frameworks, or low-level concurrency primitives.
- Experience with Kafka or other event-streaming platforms.
- Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude or Codex, with human verification and awareness of AI-related security risks.
- Familiarity with AI-powered code review and static-analysis tools.
- Strong debugging, systems-thinking, security-consciousness, communication, and pragmatic modernization skills.
