Responsibilities
- Develop and support MongoDB Python drivers and subsidiary libraries, including PyMongo, Django MongoDB Backend, PyMongoArrow, and LangChain MongoDB.
- Write and maintain open-source specifications defining common behavior and APIs across MongoDB drivers.
- Investigate bugs and support requests from commercial customers, open-source users, and internal users.
- Collaborate with Product and Server teams on designs, specifications, and roadmaps for new MongoDB features.
- Implement features, review peer code, improve code quality and performance, and design and specify major new features.
- Mentor junior engineers and interns and participate in open-source communities, conferences, and speaking engagements as desired.
Requirements
- Substantial experience writing high-quality software in Python.
- Extensive knowledge of Python tools and frameworks, scientific Python, and web development frameworks.
- Pragmatic design and decision-making skills with the ability to balance usability, maintainability, and delivery time.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate with distributed engineering teams.
- Interest in staying current with Python ecosystem trends and best practices.
- Interest in or experience with open-source software development and communities.
- Experience with AI/ML frameworks and technologies in Python, including large language models and agentic tools, is preferred.
