Responsibilities

  • Design and implement high-availability capabilities, including failure detection, recovery mechanisms, and resiliency improvements.
  • Build high-performance distributed storage capabilities focused on scalability, reliability, data durability, and predictable database performance.
  • Develop automation for engineering and service pipelines covering build, validation, deployment, testing, and operational workflows.
  • Design data migration capabilities and tools for reliable movement of customer data into and across Azure HorizonDB.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering tools across software design, development, testing, debugging, troubleshooting, and operations.
  • Participate in on-call rotations, investigate incidents, resolve complex service issues, and drive improvements that reduce recurrence.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and partner teams on technical designs, architecture, product direction, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience building distributed systems or database infrastructure using C++, C, or Rust.
  • Preferred experience with PostgreSQL internals or database engine development, including query processing, storage engines, transaction processing, logging, replication, or recovery.
  • Preferred experience designing distributed systems involving availability, consistency, fault tolerance, scalability, distributed storage, and failure recovery.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, or Rust and experience developing reliable production software.
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting software on Linux operating systems, including system-level concepts, debugging tools, and runtime behavior.
  • Experience with system performance analysis and profiling across CPU, memory, storage, and networking.
  • A master's degree with 6+ years of technical engineering experience, or equivalent experience, is an additional qualification.
  • Experience using AI-assisted software engineering tools and practices is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate across engineering and partner teams and communicate technical ideas clearly.
  • Ability to investigate customer and live-site incidents, analyze complex system failures, identify root causes, and drive reliability improvements.
  • Ability to pass Microsoft's Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.

Benefits

  • The position is based in Canada and offers a typical base pay range of CAD $114,400 to CAD $203,900 per year.
  • The role includes participation in an on-call rotation.
  • The position will remain open for at least five days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until filled.
