Responsibilities
- Build and maintain the core accounting platform, including reusable records, rules, mappings, and versioned APIs.
- Own reliable ERP connectivity with NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, and Oracle, including synchronization, error recovery, and rate-limit handling.
- Implement customer-facing close workflows for reviewing, configuring, reconciling, and exporting financial activity in a React/TypeScript dashboard.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Data Science, and Implementation teams to simplify complex accounting and ERP concepts for finance teams.
- Design distributed systems with idempotency, reconciliation, traceability, correctness, and proactive issue detection as core architectural requirements.
- Own work end-to-end across user experience, API design, data models, scalability, and observability.
- Integrate production ML models for predicted general-ledger coding and mappings while preserving explainability and human review.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and maintain operational standards for mission-critical systems.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of full-time software engineering experience focused on backend development.
- At least 2 years building systems where correctness and reliability were core requirements, such as fintech, payments, financial systems, healthcare, legal, or another regulated industry.
- Experience designing APIs, data models, and platform capabilities supporting varied customer workflows and configurations.
- Proficiency with backend technologies such as Kotlin, Java, and TypeScript, with comfort using Kotlin and Micronaut.
- Experience architecting, developing, and testing full-stack applications end-to-end.
- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, event streaming such as Kafka, and distributed systems.
- Strong engineering standards around code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence, along with experience providing review and mentorship.
- Strong written and verbal English communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Bonus: experience with accounting systems or ERPs including NetSuite, QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, or Oracle.
- Bonus: familiarity with monthly close, general ledger coding, reconciliation, or double-entry bookkeeping.
- Bonus: experience scaling third-party integrations, including partner API limits, schema drift, and asynchronous failure recovery.
- Bonus: experience shipping ML- or LLM-powered product features where explainability and human review matter.
- Bonus: experience with platform or API products used by engineering teams or external developers.
- Bonus: experience leading technical design across teams or mentoring engineers as a formal or informal tech lead.
