Responsibilities
- Shape the technical direction, architecture, standards, and best practices for Masabi’s payments platform.
- Design and deliver scalable, secure, resilient, and cost-effective payment solutions.
- Support engineering teams evolving toward a modern service-based architecture while balancing delivery and long-term platform health.
- Contribute to architecture reviews, design discussions, technical documentation, roadmap planning, prioritisation, and technical scoping.
- Identify and resolve complex challenges involving scalability, resilience, operational performance, and system evolution.
- Act as a senior technical advisor across engineering teams, particularly within the payments domain.
- Collaborate with external payment providers and partners on integrations, technical alignment, and problem-solving.
- Contribute to engineering standards, technical forums, architecture patterns, and organisational best practices.
Requirements
- Strong experience working with payment systems, including payment service providers, gateways, EMV, contactless EMV, and acquirers.
- Good understanding of payment flows, transaction lifecycles, and system-design considerations.
- Experience designing and evolving distributed systems and service-based architectures.
- Experience operating at Principal or Staff level and shaping technical direction across multiple teams or domains.
- Strong technical judgement, communication skills, and ability to balance short-term delivery with long-term architectural outcomes.
- Comfort navigating ambiguity, translating complex problems into practical approaches, and contributing hands-on when needed.
- Strong experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and modern infrastructure practices.
- Experience working with systems where scale, reliability, performance, and cost trade-offs are important.
- Experience contributing to engineering standards, architecture patterns, or platform direction.
- Interest in or exposure to AI-enabled systems and their architectural implications in production.
- Nice to have experience with transit or fare-payment systems, card schemes such as Visa, Mastercard, or Interac, and complex multi-service or event-driven architectures.
- Familiarity with Kotlin, Java, DynamoDB, MySQL, Terraform, and GitLab CI/CD is beneficial.
