Base Salary
$160k - $240k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end architecture of hardware safety and power-management systems, including safe-state strategies, power sequencing, thermal throttling, and watchdog orchestration.
- Implement low-level bare-metal and FreeRTOS drivers for PMICs, voltage supervisors, thermal monitors, and other safety-critical integrated circuits.
- Integrate TI Safety Diagnostic Library capabilities including LBIST, PBIST, ECC, DCC, and ESM into firmware and map diagnostic coverage to ISO 26262 hardware fault metrics.
- Perform deep-dive code reviews across hardware safety modules and maintain clean, consistent, testable driver interfaces and error-handling patterns.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert for hardware-firmware-safety interfaces and resolve ambiguities involving sequencing, watchdog timing, thermal limits, and voltage thresholds.
- Mentor engineers on embedded safety patterns, driver architecture, RTOS integration, ISO 26262 traceability, and functional-safety reasoning.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field plus 4+ years of relevant experience; alternatively, a master's degree plus 2+ years of relevant experience or a PhD.
- Deep experience developing embedded C/C++ software with advanced language features, clean abstractions, interface-based design, and embedded constraints such as no exceptions and no RTTI.
- Expertise in ARM-based SoC architectures, especially ARM Cortex-R5F, including memory-mapped I/O, VIM interrupt controllers, MPU configuration, cache behavior, and memory barriers.
- Experience configuring MPUs and hardware-level firewalls for spatial and temporal isolation in multi-core safety-critical environments.
- Experience building or significantly refactoring hardware abstraction layers for multiple hardware targets, RTOS environments, or variant configurations.
- Ability to independently root-cause complex failures involving power sequencing, watchdogs, thermal throttling, interrupt latency, shared memory, RTOS scheduling, and hardware peripherals.
- Expert-level proficiency with JTAG, on-target debugging, logic analyzers, and other tools for verifying low-level hardware-software interactions.
- Deep understanding of FreeRTOS and/or SafeRTOS, including task lifecycle, synchronization, interrupt handling, timing constraints, preemption, priority inversion, and stack requirements.
- Direct experience developing datasheet-based drivers for safety-critical integrated circuits using SPI/I2C, register-level configuration, fault handling, and diagnostic integration.
- Foundational knowledge of ISO 26262 ASIL-B/C functional-safety concepts, including safe states, diagnostic coverage, fault-tolerance allocation, and requirements traceability.
- Preferred experience with TDA4/J784S4 Jacinto 7 or other TI automotive SoCs, TI PSDK, SDL, register maps, and peripheral architectures.
- Preferred expertise in Linux-based embedded software development, gtests, Python scripting, Bazel, and Docker.
- Preferred experience with ISO 26262 audits or certification, Jama requirements traceability, FMEA/HARA, safety cases, hardware diagnostic frameworks, Tracealyzer, in-circuit emulators, or automotive and other safety-critical domains.
