Responsibilities
- Own a platform, processing domain, or multi-team data capability, including its architecture and technical roadmap.
- Define and document architecture so teams can build within the domain independently.
- Drive cross-team modernization, reliability, scalability, and cost initiatives.
- Resolve systemic recurring incidents, cost escalations, and data-quality defects.
- Influence several teams through design reviews, written architecture, and working prototypes.
- Set and enforce engineering standards without relying on direct reporting authority.
- Mentor SDE2 and SDE3 engineers and improve design quality across the group.
- Remain hands-on through prototypes, critical-path code, and complex debugging.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 7 to 12 years of professional software engineering experience.
- Experience owning a platform or domain rather than only a single system, with durable architectural decision-making.
- Deep distributed systems and production-scale data-processing expertise.
- Strong current hands-on coding ability.
- Demonstrated cross-team technical influence and architecture adoption.
- Cloud-native architecture experience on Azure or an equivalent platform, including cost, reliability, and security depth.
- Experience mentoring senior engineers and improving group design practices.
- Preferred: healthcare data, clinical informatics, or other heavily regulated data experience.
- Preferred: experience standing up or scaling an engineering site or new platform area from zero.
- Preferred: governance, lineage, privacy-preserving processing, or large-scale de-identification experience.
- Preferred: public technical writing, conference talks, or sustained open-source contributions.
