Responsibilities
- Design and build AI-powered product experiences for finance and spend management.
- Build chat experiences, copilots, autonomous workflows, and internal AI tools.
- Develop production-grade AI systems using LLMs, structured financial data, APIs, business logic, retrieval, OCR, and document understanding.
- Design solutions using tool calling, retrieval, agentic workflows, deterministic logic, or combinations of these approaches.
- Build observable and explainable systems with guardrails and quality monitoring.
- Create evaluation approaches to measure and improve AI system performance.
- Experiment with new models and techniques and turn useful approaches into production features.
- Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers and help raise the AI engineering bar across Pliant.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional experience.
- Experience shipping AI-powered products or features into production.
- Strong software engineering skills in Java with Spring Boot and/or the Python ecosystem.
- Knowledge of distributed architecture patterns and anti-patterns.
- Understanding of modern LLM-based applications beyond simple prompting.
- Hands-on experience with tool calling, memory, structured outputs, RAG, embeddings, agentic loops, and evaluation.
- Ability to design systems where AI is part of a larger architecture and move between experimentation and production-quality engineering.
- Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally.
- Cloud infrastructure, Terraform, scalable backend systems, LangChain, LlamaIndex, or LangGraph experience is beneficial.
- Fintech, accounting, spend management, payments, or banking experience is a plus.
