Responsibilities
- Design and build scalable distributed backend systems and ML infrastructure for search, retrieval, ranking, recommendation, and personalization.
- Manage Vertex AI Pipelines for model training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Develop data pipelines for feature generation, model training, analytics, ingestion, transformation, and processing.
- Own vector generation, storage, and retrieval workflows using Milvus or similar vector databases.
- Implement model serving with KServe and build low-latency APIs with FastAPI.
- Build observability and monitoring for models and pipelines, including performance, drift, failures, and data quality tracking.
- Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, platform teams, frontend teams, project managers, and software engineers to deliver ML-driven features and search and feed experiences.
- Own and debug production systems across indexing, retrieval, ranking, and serving layers while improving reliability and performance.
- Create documentation for pipelines, models, APIs, operational processes, and system design.
- Develop internal tools and dashboards that provide visibility into data processing and model behavior.
- Contribute to engineering standards, code quality, API design, scalable infrastructure, and Python-based ML system best practices.
- Stay current with ML infrastructure, MLOps, search, ranking, recommendation, and related technologies.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience building scalable backend systems and services.
- 5+ years of software development experience using object-oriented languages, including strong proficiency in Python, Node.js, and TypeScript.
- Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch for search, indexing, and relevance tuning.
- Experience with Apache Kafka and event-driven real-time data pipelines.
- Experience with Git and platforms such as Bitbucket.
- Experience with observability and monitoring tools such as Grafana, Kibana, and APM.
- Familiarity with AWS and GCP, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience deploying, versioning, and monitoring models in production.
- Experience designing and building data pipelines with Apache Beam and Apache Airflow.
- Familiarity with Jupyter Notebook and Apache Spark for experimentation and analytics.
- Strong experience designing and consuming RESTful and GraphQL APIs, including versioning, documentation, OAuth, and JWT security practices.
- Understanding of supervised learning, unsupervised learning, deep learning, and natural language processing, with practical application to ranking, retrieval, and personalization.
- Beginner-level experience managing Vertex AI Pipelines for model training, evaluation, and deployment.
- Ability to review code, provide feedback, communicate technical concepts clearly, and solve problems using a data-driven approach.
- Experience with FastAPI, Elasticsearch, Apache Kafka, Milvus or Pinecone, Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services, Docker, and Kubernetes.
