Responsibilities
- Build robust, scalable backend systems for Smart Agent workflows and shopper interactions.
- Orchestrate agent workflows across services while managing context, state, and interactions.
- Integrate AI agent capabilities safely with payments, shopper accounts, risk, and merchant services.
- Use RAG frameworks and structured data to support intelligent responses without fine-tuning models.
- Transform product ideas and shopper needs into reliable backend services and contribute to architectural decisions.
- Monitor, optimize, and improve production systems for high performance, availability, and reliability.
- Collaborate with Product, Frontend, Data, AI, and Engineering teams to drive alignment and shared ownership.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience as a Backend Engineer.
- Experience building production-grade backend systems, preferably with Ruby on Rails; Python, Kotlin, Java, Elixir, or JavaScript experience is also valued.
- Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming, clean coding, test-driven development, and agile principles.
- Experience with agentic systems or LLM-powered agents, including RAG, workflow orchestration, or chatbots.
- Ability to build backend systems supporting AI agents without requiring data science skills.
- English proficiency; Spanish is desirable.
- Experience scaling backend services for high concurrency and low latency is a plus.
- Candidates should demonstrate strategic and platform-oriented thinking, stakeholder management, autonomy, ownership, and a pragmatic mindset.
- Located in Barcelona or willing to relocate is preferred.
