Responsibilities
- Lead technical decision-making and architecture discussions across the Cards and Merchants API estate.
- Review API contracts, specifications, event schemas, integration patterns, and technical designs for reliability, security, testability, and scalability.
- Identify systemic integration risks and drive API quality, standardisation, and risk-reduction initiatives.
- Mentor and coach API engineers on API design, enterprise integration patterns, testing strategies, and technical development.
- Investigate root causes and guide teams toward scalable, enterprise-grade solutions for complex API and integration problems.
- Collaborate with platform owners, architecture, product, engineering, and technology leadership to align API priorities and enterprise roadmaps.
Requirements
- Proven experience in API and integration architecture, including hands-on design, security, and scaling of enterprise interfaces.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot/Spring for enterprise API and integration services.
- Experience designing and reviewing RESTful APIs, including contracts, specifications, payloads, data mapping, authentication, and error handling.
- Experience with Kong and JWT for gateway-based API integration.
- Proficiency with Gradle, Docker, OpenShift, and EKS/Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with Bitbucket, Jenkins, and Spinnaker for source control, build, and deployment workflows.
- Experience using HashiCorp Vault for secure secrets management.
- Experience with IBM MQ and/or Kafka for messaging and event-driven integration.
- Experience with PostgreSQL and/or Aurora for data persistence.
- Experience with JUnit, REST Assured, and TestNG for unit, API, and integration testing.
- Strong systems-level thinking, structured problem-solving, communication, ownership, and technical leadership skills.
- Experience in banking or financial services and knowledge of card and merchant data flows are desirable.
