Responsibilities
- Design, build, and modernize critical software for the Business Line of Credit platform.
- Provide technical leadership across engineering teams and establish reusable engineering patterns.
- Modernize legacy applications and architectures using cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, APIs, automation, and modern software practices.
- Improve system reliability, availability, performance, and observability through resilient design and automation.
- Apply AI-enabled software development practices to improve productivity, quality, testing, and delivery velocity.
- Lead technical experiments and proofs of concept using emerging technologies.
- Partner with Engineering, Architecture, Product, and enterprise technology teams to influence technical direction.
- Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards across the organization.
Requirements
- Significant hands-on experience building and operating large-scale, business-critical applications.
- Strong programming and software design skills with a willingness to contribute directly to production software.
- Deep knowledge of modern software engineering practices, distributed systems, APIs, microservices, and highly available architectures.
- Experience designing, building, and operating cloud-native applications with strong public cloud fundamentals.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications, architectures, and engineering patterns while managing technical risk.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, infrastructure automation, and production operations.
- Experience applying AI-enabled tools and capabilities across the software development lifecycle.
- Ability to diagnose and solve complex technical and production problems across application and platform layers.
- Ability to learn new technologies, platforms, and enterprise tooling quickly.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, including influencing technical decisions and mentoring engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S. is required.
