Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain service level objectives, error budgets, and supporting service indicators with engineering teams.
- Investigate production issues across application, data, infrastructure, and network layers using logs, metrics, traces, profilers, heap and thread dumps, and query plans.
- Create technical documentation, runbooks, postmortems, and proofs of concept for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Identify and eliminate toil through automation, AI agents, tooling, and process improvements.
- Refine AI-agent task definitions, guardrails, integrations, repository context, reusable skills, and prompt patterns.
- Collaborate across teams as a technical escalation point for customer issues and help drive incidents to resolution.
- Participate in an on-call rotation for production incidents outside standard business hours.
- Shape reliability tooling and technical designs, identify performance bottlenecks, and informally mentor less-experienced engineers.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience in software engineering, SRE, IT, or production operations roles.
- Production troubleshooting experience across the stack and ability to diagnose issues with profilers, heap and thread dumps, query plans, traces, logs, and metrics.
- Experience operating production services on AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, EKS, RDS/Aurora, and CloudFront.
- Experience using observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or LogicMonitor.
- Experience writing automation in a general-purpose language such as Python, Go, or Java.
- Experience creating clear and concise technical documentation.
- Sound judgment when applying AI to SRE work, including verifying AI output before it affects production systems or sensitive data.
- Hands-on experience using agentic development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Copilot for engineering or operational work.
- Preferred experience contributing to shared AI assets and using infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD tooling such as Terraform, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
- Applicants must be based in Australia and have unrestricted work rights in Australia.
