Base Salary
$120k - $290k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and build critical systems powering PlanetScale's database platform and serving millions of queries per second.
- Collaborate with expert engineers to solve complex distributed systems challenges.
- Work independently with high autonomy to solve engineering and business problems.
- Work directly with customers to understand their needs and translate them into robust technical solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to high-quality, scalable, and maintainable systems.
Requirements
- At least five years of software engineering experience focused on backend systems.
- Strong proficiency in Go and experience with languages such as Python, Java, or C++.
- Experience with MySQL or other relational databases.
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes and containerized applications.
- Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.
- Strong experience with distributed systems, databases, and performance optimization.
- Ability to work with large codebases, debug complex issues, and make sound technical decisions independently.
- Experience with database internals, query optimization, distributed consensus algorithms, open-source contributions, cloud platforms, monitoring, observability, or debugging tools is beneficial.
