Responsibilities
- Own and improve eCTS stored procedures, database objects, SQL, functions, scripts, and business logic.
- Design and evolve relational and non-relational data models for eCTS and IWRS.
- Lead database modernization, schema conversion, data mapping, ETL/ELT, cutover, reconciliation, and rollback planning.
- Create governed data products, APIs, metadata, lineage, semantic context, data contracts, and service-level agreements.
- Develop agentic AI, retrieval, vector search, evaluation, guardrail, human-approval, and observability capabilities.
- Establish database design, performance, security, reliability, testing, infrastructure-as-code, and database-as-code standards.
- Monitor and tune database performance and ensure high availability, backup, disaster recovery, data observability, and production support.
- Ensure compliance with GxP, ALCOA+, validation, Computer Software Assurance, ICH E6(R3), audit, encryption, access-control, and retention requirements.
- Provide technical leadership, review changes and pull requests, mentor engineers, and influence platform teams.
- Partner with product, engineering, architecture, quality, support, and operations teams through Agile delivery and successive releases.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
- 6+ years of hands-on database engineering or development experience.
- Experience leading database design and development for non-trivial software products.
- Experience delivering database migration or modernization efforts.
- Experience working with engineering teams in Agile environments.
- Strong SQL and relational database expertise, including performance tuning and query optimization.
- Deep hands-on experience with stored procedures, complex database logic, data modeling, and transactional and analytical use cases.
- Experience with ETL/ELT, data migration patterns, cloud data platforms, managed database services, database security, high availability, backup/recovery, and monitoring.
- Hands-on experience building AI- or LLM-enabled solutions such as agents, retrieval, or AI-assisted code and data workflows, including at least one solution used by others beyond a personal prototype.
- Experience with source control, CI/CD, automated migrations, and database change management.
- Ability to read and reason about application code and work autonomously while influencing other teams.
- Preferred experience in pharmaceutical, life sciences, clinical development, supply chain, regulatory, quality, clinical supply, manufacturing, or laboratory systems.
- Preferred understanding of GxP, validation, data integrity, regulated environments, and Computer Software Assurance.
- Preferred experience with agent frameworks, Model Context Protocol, LLM evaluation, AI observability, automated database testing, migration tools, infrastructure as code, event streaming, CDC, NoSQL, vector databases, lakehouse, or analytics platforms.
- Relevant database, cloud, or AI certifications are a plus.
