Base Salary
$240k - $310k/yr
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term technical strategy and roadmap for Crusoe’s storage engine.
- Architect and implement the V2 storage re-architecture using system programming languages and industry-standard storage protocols.
- Bridge high-performance NVMe hardware with globally distributed, S3-competitive object stores.
- Serve as the final technical authority for critical architecture decisions across the Foundations organization.
- Lead complex design reviews spanning storage, networking, and virtualization.
- Lead focused engineering teams to resolve kernel-level I/O context-switching issues and global tail-latency bottlenecks in distributed clusters.
- Drive and maintain open-source contributions.
- Collaborate with executive leadership and Product to align technical capabilities with business milestones.
- Champion engineering initiatives such as technical talks and technical reading groups.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience building and operating large-scale, complex distributed cloud computing infrastructure products.
- Proven system programming experience with C, C++, Go, and/or Rust.
- Strong troubleshooting, profiling, and performance-tuning skills across the full I/O path.
- Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of distributed state, consistency, durability, and data protection at petabyte scale.
- Mastery of professional software engineering practices, including coding standards, build processes, testing, and the full software development lifecycle.
- Experience with storage protocols such as NFS, SMB, iSCSI, and NVMe/TCP.
- A track record of open-source contributions, with examples including Ceph, GlusterFS, Lustre, Spectrum Scale, and OpenEBS.
- Ability to lead architecture decisions, design reviews, and cross-organization initiatives.
- Bonus: expertise with AWS, GCP, Azure, or OCI.
- Bonus: familiarity with PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX, and MLOps.
- Bonus: experience with DAOS or SPDK, RDMA, SmartNICs, RoCEv2, Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis, or Kafka.
- Bonus: knowledge of CAP Theorem, Paxos/RAFT, consistent hashing, and sharding strategies.
- Bonus: advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
