Base Salary
$146k - $209k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture of core backend services while balancing scalability, reliability, security, and cost.
- Set technical standards, design patterns, and engineering practices adopted across teams.
- Lead architecture reviews, major design decisions, and evaluation of emerging technologies.
- Design and build highly available distributed backend systems and APIs.
- Remain hands-on with complex, business-critical implementation and guide teams through design, delivery, and production support.
- Champion quality, observability, operational readiness, testing, and CI/CD practices.
- Lead root-cause analysis for complex production issues and drive long-term resilience improvements.
- Use AI coding agents to accelerate development, refactoring, and debugging while maintaining quality and security.
- Identify opportunities for AI-driven platform capabilities and establish responsible AI-assisted development norms.
- Mentor engineers and influence technical direction across teams without formal management authority.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years in a lead or staff-level capacity.
- Experience owning architecture for a significant backend product area, ideally in a SaaS environment.
- Strong proficiency in a backend language such as Java, C#, or Kotlin, with experience in microservices, distributed systems, and API design.
- Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Hands-on use of AI coding agents in day-to-day software development.
- Ability to influence technical direction and mentor engineers across teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred experience includes modernizing legacy platforms, leading large-scale migrations, observability and SRE practices, event-driven architectures, messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ, and AI/ML-enabled engineering workflows.
