Responsibilities
- Implement and own VHAL property support, including configurations, read/write paths, subscriptions, notifications, and error handling.
- Maintain connector layers between VHAL and vehicle buses using SocketCAN, SOME/IP, or proprietary IPC.
- Extend the Android Car Framework, including CarPropertyManager, vendor CarManager implementations, permissions, SystemApi annotations, and car-lib APIs.
- Extend the AOSP reference VHAL, property-injection tooling, emulator support, and mock signal generators.
- Profile hot paths, reduce Binder-boundary copies, and tune subscription rates for performance and resource usage.
- Lead root-cause analysis of defects across applications, CarService, VHAL, vehicle buses, and vehicle fleets, and drive fixes through OTA releases.
- Write native, framework, VTS, and instrumentation tests.
- Author SELinux policies for owned services and resolve policy denials with narrowly scoped permissions.
- Review peer code, enforce coding and API-compatibility standards, mentor engineers, and contribute to design reviews.
Requirements
- Minimum 7.5 years of experience in Automotive Digital Cockpit Solutions; the professional qualifications also specify 8+ years total experience.
- At least 3 years of Android platform or automotive embedded-systems experience, including hands-on VHAL or HAL-layer work.
- Advanced practical C++ experience with C++14 or C++17, STL, smart pointers, templates, multithreading, mutexes, condition variables, and the AIDL NDK backend.
- Strong Java skills and competent Kotlin skills, including coroutines, null-safety, and Java framework interoperability.
- Knowledge of Android internals, including Binder IPC, ServiceManager, system services, init and .rc files, SELinux, partition rules, HIDL, AIDL HALs, and VINTF.
- Working knowledge of the Android Car API, VehiclePropertyIds, vehicle-area types, CarPropertyValue, property permissions, and vendor permissions.
- Experience with at least one onboard network, such as CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, or Automotive Ethernet with SOME/IP.
- Ability to interpret SOME/IP service definitions and configure a vsomeip client, including routing manager, service discovery, and endpoint configuration.
- Comfort working in an AOSP tree with repo sync, Android.bp files, target builds, incremental module builds, adb sync, and adb remount.
- Experience with one or more of C++, Java, Kotlin, Rust, Python, or Bash.
- 15 years of full-time education is required.
