Base Salary
$124k - $184k/yr
Responsibilities
- Deliver complete software solutions across design, implementation, testing, delivery, and operations.
- Design, build, and evolve large-scale Java backend services for PayPal’s credit products.
- Build reusable, configuration-driven systems supporting product launches and market expansion.
- Develop event-driven, asynchronous services using Kafka, Pulsar, and related messaging or streaming technologies.
- Improve platform scalability, performance, reliability, and observability across global usage.
- Partner with product, risk, compliance, and engineering teams on business and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to technical direction through design reviews, mentorship, and shared engineering standards.
- Advise management on project-level issues and guide junior engineers while making technical decisions with limited supervision.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience and 5+ years of Java experience are preferred qualifications.
- Experience building RESTful APIs with Spring Boot or similar frameworks.
- Experience designing microservice architectures and operating high-concurrency production systems.
- Experience with Oracle, MySQL, DynamoDB, and BigQuery, including data modeling, SQL optimization, and database fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience building event-driven systems with platforms such as Kafka or Pulsar.
- Experience with asynchronous programming patterns for decoupled and resilient services.
- Ability to write reliable, scalable, maintainable, secure, and performant code.
- Strong communication, technical decision-making, mentoring, and collaboration skills.
- Experience operating services on cloud platforms such as GCP or AWS is preferred.
- Experience in payments, credit, or financial services and knowledge of large-scale distributed systems are preferred.
