Responsibilities

  • Implement and own VHAL property support end to end, including configurations, read/write paths, subscriptions, notifications, and error handling.
  • Maintain VHAL connector layers for SocketCAN, SOME/IP, and proprietary IPC integrations with companion controllers.
  • Extend the Android Car Framework, including CarPropertyManager, vendor CarManager implementations, permissions, SystemApi annotations, car-lib changes, and API updates.
  • Extend the AOSP reference VHAL, property-injection tooling, mock signal generators, and emulator support for hardware-independent development.
  • Profile hot paths, reduce redundant Binder-boundary copies, and tune subscription rates and resource characteristics.
  • Lead root-cause analysis using dumpsys, logcat, systrace, Perfetto, bugreports, CAN traces, and SOME/IP captures, and drive field fixes through OTA.
  • Write GTest, GMock, JUnit, Robolectric, Mockito, VTS, and device instrumentation tests.
  • Author and maintain SELinux policies for owned services and resolve denials with narrowly scoped permissions.
  • Review peer code, enforce coding and API-compatibility standards, contribute to design reviews, and mentor engineers on AOSP, VHAL, and debugging practices.

Requirements

  • At least 7.5 years of experience in Automotive Digital Cockpit Solutions is required.
  • At least 8 years of total experience and 3+ years in Android platform or automotive embedded systems, including hands-on VHAL or HAL-layer work.
  • Advanced practical C++ proficiency, including C++14 or C++17, STL, smart pointers, templates, multithreading, mutexes, condition variables, and the AIDL NDK backend.
  • Strong Java skills and competent Kotlin skills, including coroutines, null safety, and Java framework interoperability.
  • Knowledge of Android internals, including Binder IPC, ServiceManager, system services, init and .rc files, SELinux, partition rules, HIDL versus AIDL HALs, and VINTF.
  • Working knowledge of Android Car APIs, VehiclePropertyIds, vehicle-area types, CarPropertyValue, property permissions, and vendor permissions.
  • Experience with at least one automotive network, such as CAN, CAN-FD, LIN, or Automotive Ethernet with SOME/IP.
  • Ability to interpret SOME/IP service definitions and configure a vsomeip client, including routing manager, service discovery, and endpoint configuration.
  • Experience working in an AOSP tree with repo sync, Android.bp authoring, target and incremental builds, adb sync, and adb remount.
  • Exposure to C++, Java, Kotlin, Rust, Python, or Bash.
